Paw Works Animal Rescue
What a bunch of crap this is. They DO NOT take the sick and injured or the ones at risk of euthanasia from the shelter. I volunteer at the shelter and watch them cherry pick all of the good dogs leaving the shelter to try and find homes for the harder to adopt dogs! The sheleet spends over $6 million dollars a year on medical expenses and saving animals. Occasionally they take s medical dog to help drive their donations. They take the cutest dogs and only small dogs which the shelter had no problem adopting out! What they don’t tell the public is that Ventura County Animal services doesn’t chagre them a penny to rescue?? The shelter spays or neuters all animals they take, give all vaccinations and anything that’s needed placing a tremendous drain on the shelter. Then then turn around and fundraise for those costs as if they paid it! THEN, they turnaround, take the dog to their “boutique” and charge $450 for a dog that costs $100 to adopt at shelters. They are only doing thus for money and fame! Why don’t they pull animals from the shelter that are at risk?? And help the pit bulls!!?! Now, they are taking animal from from riverside, LA, Santa Barbara and San Bernadino flooding our county with more dogs while shelter dogs die!!! They aren’t a SHELTER! They aren’t a RESCUE! Rescues exist to help shelters find homes for the ones they can’t afopt out. Paw works takes only the good ones. And only if they can get it for free. Do not donate to this scam organization. Donate to the sheleet doing the real work.
I know this is an old link but I had to reply. I share a lot of your views and I too was bullied over them. They don’t have many bad reviews because they threaten anyone who “dares” to make them.
Jan, I am not sure what shelter you volunteer for but if you truly volunteered at Ventura County you would know better and would not be making so many sad and false statements. I too volunteer at the shelter and they know me well. Anyone that follows facebook will see that you are making many false statements. All the rescues in Ventura are set up for different types of rescues. AFLAR is the main Pit Bull rescuer, TLC pulls mostly pups and smalls, Carls pulls a variety and I am sure there are many others that I have not mentioned like Cat rescues, that with out all of these RESCUES working together we “Ventura County” could not be “NO KILL”. Paw Works pulls misc sized dogs and cats, and yes does mostly tend to pull the smaller breeds although they will pull some of the larger breeds. Right now they currently have Candy, Kona, Zulu, Princess, and recently adopted out Bella. These are all large breed dogs.
It is harder to find fosters for the larger breeds and cost $450 plus a month to kennel larger dogs so they tend to pull the smaller ones. Jan, can you donate $450 a month?
One of the things on Paw Works list is to open a Training/Boarding facility. Once this happens they will be able to pull a lot more animals and hopefully help with rehabilitating some that need it to be adoptable. If you ‘Jan’ have any connections with the county to help facilitate this, by all means let Paw Works know.
Paw Works has sponsored two spay and nueter clinics for the shelter at the shelter in June to get the animals ready for adoption in order to help get ready for the 4th of July. They also sponsor monthly FREE spay and neuter events for the low/no income residents in the city of Oxnard.
They have pulled many sick, injured, and senior dogs that cost a lot of money medically.
They have sponsored several flights to other No Kill facilities, like Auburn Valley Humane Society in Washington. As a matter a fact, today they are driving up 18 dogs from Ventura County Animal Services and yes some from Santa Barbara. Paw Works goal is no kill Ventura county and beyond.
As far as ‘while shelter dogs die’, not sure where you get that either as our shelter is not killing dogs to make space.
It is sad that you probably represent another rescue and feel the need to discredit a great organization with so many false accusations. I doubt that ‘Jan’ is even your real name.
I am sure people will understand as Paw Works is transparent.
I have to take my foster kittens into the Ventura County shelter (Camarillo) this weekend. I will check in and ask about you and your volunteer work there.
By the manner in which you wrote the comment, it’s reasonably clear that your name isn’t Jan and anonymity (i.e., fake name, email address and the like) allows you to make these false, misleading and slanderous comments about a great organization that has saved hundreds of animals making Ventura County No-Kill.
Your post is truly without merit given that your boss, Tara Diller, recently attended a Paw Works event wherein she applauded Paw Works for saving the sick, injured and abandoned animals that arrive at the shelter every day. Without Paw Works, Ms. Diller recounted, the Shelter (the same organization you purportedly work for) would be unable to scream to the world, “We are No Kill.”
Regardless of your comments, which are unfounded completely, the FACTS show that:
1. Paw Works has saved close to 1000 animals from the Shelter;
2. The Shelter DOES NOT SPAY in a timely manner. While they MAY OR WILL SPAY, that comes months after the animal is adopted or “pulled” by a rescue organization. Many times Paw Works has to pay for the actual spay because the Shelter is “too busy” — statements from Shelter employees.
3. Paw Works pays for Mobile Spay and Neuter Clinics to ensure that the County remains No Kill.
4. Routinely participates in many local events to educate, promote and further the No-Kill cause, which helps the same organization which you apparently work for – Ventura Animal Services.
Given the foregoing, it is quite comical that you trash and cast a false light on the VERY organization that made or substantially helped Ventura Animal Services (your boss) achieve No-Kill. Instead of wasting your time (and mine), be part of the solution.

Thank you so much for your continued support of paw works. We appreciate your kind words but we must clarify one of your statements.
VCAS does indeed take several days, sometimes a week to spay/neuter an adopted or rescued animal but not months. The only time VCAS would delay a neuter surgery for a month would be in a situation where the animal is a cryptochrid, which means a young male’s testicals have not yet descended and it would involve a more difficult and lengthy surgery.

I will let their words resonate with the majority that understands the commitment of Paw Works to saving the lives of our best and furry friends. I am left to hope that this dissenter ‘Jan’ can turn her negative energy and time spent toward actually helping our common cause. Peace.
I don’t usually take the time to reply to comments left by obviously misguided and misinformed people, but I felt the need to. Working closely with the Paw Works family, I have first hand knowledge of the work being done every single day. It is truly sad that someone who claims to volunteer at a shelter would make such false claims about an organization that is truly making a difference in the lives of so many. Shame on you “Jan”.
it always amazes me when people make statements as “Jan ” has done without the accurate facts. It is apparent that her letter was full of emotion that is displaced. My husband and I are a Paw Works member of the family. We have spent countless hours donating our time to help produce fantastic fundraiser’s for this organization. To raise money for the spay and neuter clinics, medical care for the lost or thrown away animals. As well as , the for the paralyzed dogs that were left to die now have doggie wheels to walk . The dogs that were hit by a car and laying in a cage at the shelter not receiving medical care . Dogs like Jim that suffer from seizures who is fostered by our family member Chris. Paw Works pay’s for Jims medical care. We do this because Paw Works is a honest , authentic , ethical organization. We have experienced first hand what they actively do for the animals. They are not prejudice on any breed or age of an animal. I have seen the oldest of dogs be picked up by Paw Works, the ones that have been thrown away by their owners due to health conditions and age . Who do you think pays for their medication to give them guilty of life? Paw Works does. These are dogs that are less desirable for adoption . So, they don’t just pick the cutest , easy to adopt dogs. They wish they can save all animals big or small , healthy or sick. Which is unrealistic at this time. Their goals are to have a board and care facility . With the help of our wonderful donors they will get there , hopefully one day soon.
I am proud to stand by this organization and be a member of the PW family with Deana, Darrin , Bryan , Terri, Chad and Christina. And of course all the hard working volunteers and staff that keep the train moving to keep Ventura county no kill.

Our organization has worked closely with Paw Works since they started and we have never met a more professional and amazing rescue group. They break their backs to make and keep Ventura County no kill and we are so proud of their success. The amount of medical dogs they save is just astonishing. Those are the hardest and we couldn’t be more excited to see all the lives they continue to save every day. We love you Paw Works!!!

Have you all that speak so highly of paw works donated your time in their actual shops?? Like the mall in Ventura? I was in there a few weeks ago and only saw small dogs. One dog had diarrhea all over the palace and a few other dogs were just playing and yelping amongst a play pen of feces. Today, I witnessed a woman unloading many small dogs into two shopping carts from her paw works van. She let one dog run off while she wheeled her carts full of pups into the door of the loading dock. She let this dog run around the shopping mall parking lot!! The dog could have been hit by a car? Wtf!!! Myself and another woman witnessed this and went looking for the small pup running free in the parking lot. We found the dog and the woman came outside. She grabbed the dog by its collar to pick him up. Who treats any animal like that, especially someone who claims to work for a non profit rescue. Makes me wonder what’s really going on at Paw works. Ps, I have never made a comment on a site before, none the less a negative one. It hurts to see these pups be treated this way, and know that this company is getting away with it.
