Dan Goodwin is the elected Assessor of Ventura County. In this interview with Our Ventura TV host, Bart Stern, Goodwin provides an overview of their office and resources available to taxpayers.

The Ventura County Assessor is a position mandated by the California State Constitution to identify all taxable property.

An assessor calculates the value of property, which is then used as the basis for determining the amounts to be paid or assessed for tax purposes.

Amgen is the largest taxpayer in Ventura County, with over a billion dollars of property, including real estate and personal property, such as computers, microscopes, etc.

Goodwin discusses some of the responsibilities of their office, including staffing and changes that have occurred over the years, particularly with computerization.

He also discusses the resources available to taxpayers via their website.

Goodwin encourages taxpayers to examine the assessed value of their property themselves and compare it to their understanding of market value and contact them if they have questions or concerns. He also touches upon their assessment appeal process.
