Local Muslim, Sarah Khan, speaks about the religion of Islam with Our Ventura TV host, George Alger. As part of the discussion, Khan talks about the Five Pillars of Islam, the Quran (Koran) and how Muslims view Jihad and terrorism.

A Muslim, sometimes spelled Moslem, is a follower of the religion of Islam.

The Five Pillars of Islam are the framework of Muslim life. They are the testimony of faith, prayer, giving zakat (support of the needy), fasting during the month of Ramadan, and the pilgrimage to Makkah once in a lifetime for those who are able.

The Quran is the primary source of every Muslim’s faith and practice. It deals with all the subjects which concern human beings: wisdom, doctrine, worship, transactions, law, etc., but its basic theme is the relationship between God and His creatures. At the same time, it provides guidelines and detailed teachings for a just society, proper human conduct, and an equitable economic system.

Islam is one of the mostly widely practiced religions in the world.

Khan is originally an Indian Muslim. She came to to the United States 20 years ago and has since become an American citizen.

I hope the prejudice against Islam blows over soon. 9-11 was a shock to all of us and as Sarah Khan put it across, it is a very small percentage who have resorted to acts of terror and violence. Islam does not advocate any intermediary between the Maker and the individual, and so it is up to the person to seek a clear path but ignorance and illiteracy gives rise to a kind of fanaticism unseen in the religion before.

Thank you George for giving Sara a chance to speak on our behalf about what real Muslims are about. She did a great job. We need to bridge the gaps and get to truly know one another at a time when the world is violently divided and spewing out hatred. Thank you for actually listening to Sara, rather than talking over her or trying to argue with her. People like you make the world a better place:)

Thank you George for your sincere questions and giving Sara the opportunity to answer them. This type of coverage of Islam and Muslims is very much needed at this time. I hope you can bring Sara on again and talk about her as a public speaker. It is her passion and she has not only won many competitions but done lots of training a in and outside the Muslim community. she and her work are more representative of our faith and especially of American Muslim women than anything else on TV these days. Thank you again.
