Darin Schindler, Ventura Police Chief, speaks with Sandra Siepak about the Ventura Police Community Academy for those 18 years and older, as well as the Explorer Program for youth 14-18.
The Ventura Police Community Academy is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to strengthen community partnerships and increase transparency. This free program will take participants on a patrol ride-along, provide interactive trainings, showcase hands-on activities that provide an inside look at local policing, and much more. Each night features a new topic with different speakers, demonstrations, and discussions.
The Ventura Police Explorer Program is designed to give community members aged 14-18, and still enrolled in high school, the opportunity to earn first-hand knowledge of the challenges, duties, complexities, and responsibilities of a police officer and to gain a better understanding of the law enforcement profession and local city government. The program gives young residents the opportunity to learn more about the Ventura Police Department while developing valuable career, leadership, social, and life skills found in serving their community.
