Ventura Community Development Director, Jeff Lambert, speaks with Our Ventura TV host, George Alger, about new construction in Ventura, as well as economic development.

Lambert discusses the recent upsurge in new residential building permits and the city’s philosophy regarding such new development, contrasted with protecting existing residential neighborhoods.

Additionally, he highlights some important commercial construction projects, including the Community Memorial Hospital construction in midtown Ventura, as well as the nearby Ventura County Medical Center construction and refers to the area as Ventura’s “wellness district,”

He also speaks about anticipated development around the auto dealerships center in additional to a 4-star Hilton proposed on the beach, next to the Ventura County Fair Grounds. Further, Lambert speaks about Silver Bay Seafoods’ 40,000- to 50,000-square-foot plant in the Ventura industrial area to process and freeze market squid.

The Ventura Community Development Department is responsible for planning and zoning, economic development, housing and redevelopment for the City of Ventura. The department works to ensure that new construction and additions to existing structures meet the policies and guidelines that have been established for public safety, zoning and development. The Ventura Community Development Department also works with various city commissions that help guide and advise the City Council regarding growth in the city.
