Risa Horowitz and Mara Alexandru discuss the national nonprofit organization, Americans for Safe Access. Horowitz and Alexandru are members of an action group in Ventura that has a purpose to discuss ways patients can gain safe access to medical marijuana.
An action group or task group is a group of people joined temporarily to accomplish some task or take part in some organized collective action.
Americans for Safe Access (ASA) and Americans for Safe Access Foundation (ASAF) share the mission of ensuring safe and legal access to cannabis (marijuana) for therapeutic uses and research (Source: medicalmarijuanaservices.com.au). ASA works with grassroots members to effect change using public education and direct advocacy at the local, state, and federal level. ASAF trains and educates patients, advocates, health care professionals and other stakeholders. ASAF also provides direct legal support and uses impact litigation to protect and expand patients’ rights.
ASA and ASAF staff are on the frontlines of the medical marijuana movement working with members to shape policy and public opinion moving toward their goals.
