Megan Meadows speaks with George Alger about the Autism Society Ventura County.
Meadows discusses the organization, which is a non-profit serving people of all ages. The society provides programs, education, training, advocacy, and also acts as a resource hub for families.
Meadows defines autism as a lifelong developmental disorder that affects how people interact with and perceive the world. She explains that it is a spectrum disorder because its presentation can be vastly different in each individual.
The organization offers various programs, including virtual art classes, a book club for young adults, and social meetups.
They also hold an annual “Aut2Run” fundraiser, with all of the proceeds going directly towards fulfilling Autism Society Ventura County’s (ASVC) mission of improving the lives of all affected by Autism.
A common misconception is that autism is specific to youth, but it is a lifelong disorder that affects adults as well.
To get involved or learn more, viewers can visit the organization’s website, autismventura.org, follow them on social media, or sign up for their monthly newsletter. There are also volunteer opportunities available.
