Building Subsidized Housing in Ventura
Excellent program by the host and invited speaker, both of them knowledgeable and informative. I’ve always known that Ventura has charm and desirability that other community’s can only dream of. This program shows some of the commitment and genius of planning and execution needed to make a great place even greater.
So much misinformation.
The “affordable housing” allotments are affordable to median income wage earners – that’s $90,000 per year.
Subsidized housing is not affordable housing. We need to quit approving projects that don’t fill a need in our housing gap. We need to quit approving any projects that don’t ensure affordability with land-use restrictions limiting occupancy to local workers at a maximum cost of 30% of gross income.
We need to get rid of the de facto trailer parks that line our streets and designate land for low-cost and no-cost sites for trailers and tiny homes.
We need to quit allowing the Silicon Valley funded YIMBY’s lead us by the nose and we need to start considering affordable housing projects that don’t involve windfall profits for developers.
We need actual affordable housing, not luxury developments that are rationalized by simplistic supply/demand arguments that don’t hold water.
Yes, do host another podcast on this topic because this is a great kickoff to deeper discussion. Great places are built on great discussions. Thank you MB and Nick.
