How One Small Act Built a $100 Million Nonprofit

Diane Eskenazi speaks with George Alger about the nonprofit she founded, PeaceBuilders.

Origins: Diane started PeaceBuilders 25 years ago as a small family project to teach her young daughter about charity by packing boxes of goods for orphanages using a local 99-cent store.

Growth and Impact: Through corporate partnerships the organization has scaled significantly. Without raising money or operating as a financial endeavor, Peacebuilders has shipped over $100 million worth of medical supplies, clothing, shoes, and disaster relief aid both locally and globally.

Collaboration & Sustainability: Much of the aid consists of corporate returns or slightly imperfect items that would otherwise end up in landfills, meaning the organization addresses both humanitarian needs and environmental waste.

Community Involvement: PeaceBuilders regularly engages local school children and volunteers in packing containers and participating in pen-pal programs with kids in international orphanages, emphasizing that anyone can make a difference starting from small acts of kindness.
