Ventura Creative Economy Specialist, Eric Wallner, is interviewed by Polly Hoganson about his role with the city of Ventura regarding local economic development.
As part of the discussion, Eric describes how Ventura is working to attract and retain creative business. He mentioned examples of working with the film, music and publishing communities as well as with architects, designers and anything related to creative businesses, which also includes food and entertainment businesses.
As examples, Eric’s office puts together Ventura’s Restaurant Week every fall, which promotes and encourages visitors and residents to experience Ventura restaurants with special prices, as well as music week in the spring, which promotes the Ventura music community.
Ventura’s new focus is on green, high-tech and creative jobs, which represent high wage, high value employment, which can be the backbone of a strong economy.
Eric also discusses Ventura Business Center, which is a high-tech incubator, although it has one floor for non profits, including Focus on the Masters, Ventura County Ballet, Ventura Film Society.
Eric’s office also works with Ventura Cultural Affairs.
