Dr. Lissa Barger and Dr. Nessa Meshkaty, who are Infectious Disease Specialists, speak with Sandra Siepak about the COVID-19 vaccinations.
Currently, there are two different vaccines approved for adults and each requires two doses. Both are an mRNA vaccine that uses a copy of a natural chemical called messenger RNA to produce an immune response.
For the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, the interval is 21 days between the first and second dose. And for the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, the interval is 28 days between the first and second dose.
They also speak about Anaphylaxis, which is a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction. It can occur within seconds or minutes of exposure to something you’re allergic to.
