Denise Carter, a comedian and podcast personality, discusses the importance of laughter for overall well-being with Our Ventura TV host, Monique Nowlin.
Carter explains that she became a comedian to cope with her job in home health hospice and to bring comfort to her father, who was ill.
According to Carter, laughter can improve mental health by increasing dopamine and serotonin levels. She also mentions “laugh therapy,” a technique where people laugh together to make the feeling contagious.
To bring more laughter into your life, she suggests:
- Changing your environment: Go outside and get fresh air to trigger the vagus nerve and feel happier.
- Surrounding yourself with positive people: Spend time with people who have an uplifting outlook.
- Finding humor in everyday life: Laugh at something on TV or just start laughing, as it’s contagious and will make you feel better.
Carter concludes by sharing a story about how she used a countdown and laughter to help a nurse who was feeling down, and she advises viewers not to take life too seriously.
