Ed Knighton speaks with George Alger about the benefits of stretching.
Stretching is a type of physical exercise in which a muscle is deliberately stretched, often to the point of mild discomfort. It is performed for various reasons including to increase the muscle’s length, improve its flexibility and range of motion, and to relieve muscle tension.
Stretching can be done statically, where a stretch is held for a certain period of time, or dynamically, where a muscle is repeatedly stretched and relaxed. Static stretching is generally considered to be more effective for increasing flexibility, while dynamic stretching is more effective for warming up the muscles before exercise.
