Ventura County Public Health: Stopping the Cycle of Tobacco Use

Isabel Gomez, with the Ventura County Public Health Department, speaks with Sandra Siepak to discuss the “Call it Quits” program, a no-smoking initiative.

The program aims to provide personalized tools and resources to residents seeking to quit tobacco use. A key focus is educating youth about the dangers of tobacco advertising and flavored products.

The discussion highlights the significant health benefits of quitting, noting that the body begins to heal rapidly, improving lung and heart health.

While the program itself doesn’t provide nicotine replacement therapy, it helps connect individuals with available resources, including personalized counseling and support from trained staff.

The program also offers community presentations in both English and Spanish through the Tobacco Education and Prevention program.
