Elle Febbo and Danica Selvaggio, representing Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County, speak with Our Ventura TV host, Sandra Siepak, about the organization.

Author and speaker, Febbo, discusses the impact of having a volunteer big sister who befriended her when she was young. Febbo remarks, “Someone believed in me, when I couldn’t believe in myself, or didn’t believe in myself. Someone saw in me, what I could not see in myself.” Furthermore, she states, “There’s no greater gift that you can give a child, I don’t think, then to remind them of their potential. And to let them know the gifts and the strengths that you see within them.”

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 6 through 17, with an average age in Ventura County of 12.

These children are only involved in the program because they want to be.

Selvaggio notes that Big Brothers Big Sisters are always looking for more “Bigs,” who are willing to spend a little time every week to reach out to a child as a friend.

Big Brothers Big Sisters develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives on young people.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters Mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters Vision is that all children achieve success in life.
