Kimberlee Albers, the Homeless Solutions Director for the County of Ventura, speaks with Sandra Siepak to discuss her role, key challenges, recent successes, and future plans for addressing homelessness in the region.
Albers identified the lack of housing affordability as the primary factor contributing to homelessness along the California coast. The high cost of rent means that job loss or a medical emergency can quickly lead to housing instability, even for those with long-standing community ties. While substance abuse and mental illness are acknowledged contributing factors, they are not the core driver of the housing crisis itself.
